34 Years of Technology in Sudan: From Compaq Reseller to Fintech Provider

Advanced Computer & Telecommunication Services (ACTS) was established in February 1992 to provide high-quality services in computers and telecommunications. More than three decades and 300+ projects later, here is how we got here.

1990s: Computers, networks and training

Our early years were about bringing computing and networking to Sudanese organisations. In 1993 we built a computer network for UNDP. In 1995 we became the first and sole authorized reseller for Compaq in Sudan, a status no other Sudanese company had been granted. Through the 1990s we built networks and trained staff for clients including the Hilton Khartoum, Sudan TV, Shell Sudan, Petronas, WHO, WFP, UNHCR and the Central Bank of Sudan.

In 1998 we opened a procurement and follow-up branch in Dubai to broaden our supply lines. Over time we became a true multi-brand reseller for HP, Compaq, Nortel, Cisco, D-Link, 3Com, R&M and Samsung CCTV and security, among others.

2000s: Telecom infrastructure

As Sudan’s telecom sector grew, so did our infrastructure work:

  • Copper and fiber networks for the ports of Port Sudan and Suakin (2000)
  • Survey and design of 1,300 copper cabinets for 520,000 lines for Sudatel (2001)
  • Towers and masts for 33 sites in Al-Dabba for Sudatel (2004)
  • Fiber under Hantoub Bridge and through rocky ground in Port Sudan for Canar (2006–2007)
  • A turnkey 141 km fiber backbone in Khartoum for Zain (2007), followed by 77 km more in 2010

2010s: Payments

From 2018 we moved strongly into fintech: POS maintenance for government institutions, POS software for MaxNet, and in 2019 a Payment Service Provider licence from the Central Bank of Sudan. Large POS software projects followed, including 700 devices for CAT and 4,000 devices for Sahil Payments.

2020s: Agritech and financial inclusion

In recent years we have built platforms with direct social impact:

  • Mahsool, our agritech platform, now serving 30,000+ farmers with 80+ agents
  • Sandoog, used by 100+ village savings groups in Blue Nile State
  • Payment integration for microfinance in Darfur with PACT and UNDP (2021)
  • Agricultural data collection in 10 states for UNDP (2021)
  • Market linkage with Mercy Corps (2025), and work with CRS and UNIDO (2026)

What has not changed

Through every stage, our approach has stayed the same: a team of qualified engineers, strong partnerships with technology vendors, and a quality management system that is ISO 9001:2015 compliant. Our vision is a world where seamless communication and technology integration drive growth and efficiency.
